CQC Readiness and Assessment Preparation
Being CQC-ready should be the result of good governance, not a last-minute exercise.
I can provide structured preparation and independent assessment to help organisations understand how their current systems and practices would stand up to external scrutiny.

What support can include
- Mock CQC assessments
- Review against relevant CQC requirements
- Review against the CQC key questions and quality statements (previously Key Lines of Enquiry)
- Review of policies and evidence
- Staff understanding and consistency
- Governance and assurance systems
- Action planning
- Reassessment and progress reviews
A structured approach
For organisations requiring more extensive preparation, I can work alongside the service over a number of months rather than providing a one-off mock assessment.
For example:
- Initial assessment
- Improvement plan
- Support
- Reassessment
- Evidence of improvement
- Final readiness review
The objective is to establish improvements that are understood by staff, appropriate to the organisation's culture and embedded within everyday practice.

How CQC assesses services
CQC assesses services against five key questions: is the service safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Under its single assessment framework, quality statements sit under those questions and have replaced the earlier key lines of enquiry.
How I approach it
Finding
An initial assessment of current practice, policies and evidence shows where the gaps are.
Action
An improvement plan that fits your service, your people and your resources.
Evidence
Evidence builds that staff understand the changes and apply them.
Sign-off
A reassessment confirms progress against the plan.
Sustained improvement
A final readiness review checks that the improvements are embedded.
Common questions
Is this a one-off mock assessment or ongoing support?
It can be either. A mock assessment can be a one-off. For organisations that need more extensive preparation, I can work alongside the service over a number of months, with reassessment and progress reviews along the way.
Is being CQC-ready the same as having the right policies?
No. Good governance is more than having policies or completing audits. It is being able to show that concerns are identified, action is taken, evidence is generated, learning is shared and improvements are sustained. That is what I look for.
Do you only look at documents?
No. I review policies and evidence, and I also look at staff understanding and consistency, because paperwork alone does not show how a service works in practice.
Start with a conversation
I take on a limited number of engagements at a time, so each organisation receives my full attention. If you are considering support, an early conversation is the best way to talk about timing.
