What is PDSA?
PDSA stands for Plan, Do, Study, Act. It is a way of testing a change on a small scale: you plan the change, try it, study what happened, and act on what you learn by adopting it, adjusting it or dropping it.
How I approach it
Finding
A problem or an audit result is identified and measured.
Action
A planned change, tested and adjusted.
Evidence
Measurement shows whether the change made a difference.
Sign-off
The results are reviewed and the change is agreed as complete.
Sustained improvement
A sustainability review checks that it lasts.
Common questions
How do I know if our audits are giving us real assurance?
I can review whether your audit programme is measuring the right things, identifying areas of concern, resulting in action, demonstrating improvement, being followed up and providing meaningful assurance.
What can quality improvement support include?
It can include quality improvement projects, PDSA methodology, audit programmes, service redesign, improvement plans, and measurement and evaluation.
How do you make sure changes last?
The focus is on embedding change so that improvements continue after the initial review. Sustainability reviews check whether a change has held.

I take on a limited number of engagements at a time, so each organisation receives my full attention. If you are considering support, an early conversation is the best way to talk about timing.
